# IP Range Protection

## IP range protection

Use IP range protection to restrict video playback to specific IP addresses or ranges.

> **CIDR notation**
> 
> IP ranges are defined using CIDR notation. In CIDR notation, subnet masks are specified by a suffix appended with a slash to the IP address. For example, 74.125.227.0/29 represents the IP range 74.125.227.0 to 74.125.227.7.

### To enable IP range protection:

- In the navigation bar, click [Security Policies](/v1/docs/security-policy).
- Select an existing security policy or create a new one.
- In the editing area, select the IP range protection checkbox:

- Enter the allowed IP ranges in the text box.

Video playback is only allowed within the specified IP ranges.

### Why use IP range protection?

There are a few reasons why you might want to use IP range protection:

- To restrict video playback to your employees or customers
- To comply with licensing agreements or regulations
- To prevent unauthorized access to your video content
