Customize video metadata

Description

Custom video metadata is a powerful tool that can help you to improve the organization, searchability, and efficiency of your video library.

Advantages

  • Improved organization: Custom metadata fields can help you to organize your video library in a way that makes sense for your business.

  • Increased searchability: Custom metadata fields make it easier to find the videos you need, when you need them.

  • More efficient workflows: Custom metadata fields can be used to automate tasks such as tagging and categorization, which can save you time and effort.

Add and edit metadata fields to your videos, beyond the standard ones like title and keywords.

This lets you predefine a list of company-specific options for each video, which can be used to search and organize your video library.

Create a custom video metadata field

  1. Go to Video Asset Management > Video Metadata.

  2. Click Create.

  3. Enter a name for the field.

  4. Select a data type from the drop-down menu

    • Examples of custom video metadata fields:

      • Text

      • Number

      • Boolean

      • Select

      • Date

      • Multi Select

  5. Click Create.

  6. In the Custom Metadata Configuration edit pane, configure the field's options.

  7. Click Save.

  8. Click the new field to open the Custom Metadata Configuration edit pane.

  9. To prevent users from editing the field in your VideoManager (for example, because it can only be edited through the API), disable this option in the edit pane.

  10. If the custom metadata type is Select or Multi Select, configure the select options in the edit pane.

    • These select fields will now be available in the video asset's metadata accordion menu as follows:

      • Select: A drop-down menu with the configured options, sorted alphabetically.

      • Multi Select: A text field with a searchable list of options to choose from.

Add options to a select or multi-select field

  1. Type the text for your option into the text field. Each option must be unique (case insensitive).

  2. Press enter or click the ✓ save button.

  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to add more options.

  4. To delete an option, click the x button to the right of the text field.

Rename a custom metadata field

  1. Go to Video Asset Management > Video Metadata.

  2. Click the edit icon next to the field you want to rename.

  3. Enter a new name for the field.

  4. Click Save.

Delete a video metadata field

To delete a custom video metadata field:

  1. Select the field you want to delete.

  2. Click the Delete button at the top of the list.

  3. Confirm the deletion in the dialog boxes that appear.

If the field is in use, you will see a warning message. You can still delete the field, but it will be removed from all videos where it is used.
