Video Formats accordion
The Video Formats accordion menu provides detailed information about the source video file, as well as a list of all available video formats.
Original video file: Click on the Information button to open the details of the source video file.
Download: To download a video, click on the Download button for the desired format. The Download button is only active when there is also a download release for the video (See this article for more information).
Transcoding
Transcoding is the process of converting a video file into one or more new, compressed formats. This allows your video to be played on different devices and in different quality levels.
When you upload a video to movingimage, it is automatically transcoded into the following standard formats:
288p (h.264) MP4
360p (h.264) MP4
480p (h.264) MP4
720p (h.264) MP4
1080p (h.264) MP4
Other formats
The formats 1440p and 2160p are not transcoded by default.
You can monitor the progress of the transcoding process in your account. The Video Formats accordion menu lists all available formats.
Once the transcoding process is complete, you can start editing your video. You can also publish your video even if not all formats are available.
Video Formats for transcoding
The choice of video format is important for the playback of your video. Different formats have different qualities and sizes. You also need to consider the playback devices of your viewers, as some formats may not be supported on all devices.
The following table provides an overview of the standard video formats:
Format | Image quality | Storage volume | Codecs | Playback devices |
---|---|---|---|---|
MP4 | High | Small | H.264, VP8, VP9 | Most browsers and devices |
WEBM | High | Small | VP8, VP9 | HTML5 browsers and devices |
WMV | High | Medium | None | Windows devices |
