Overview

This guide offers a step-by-step walkthrough for configuring a new video player using the VideoManager Pro (VMPro) platform. Key configuration sections such as Player Theme and Player Controls enable customization of both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the player to suit your specific needs.

  1. Player Theme

Customize the player's appearance by selecting either dark or light themes, and configuring specific color options for primary elements, control bar backgrounds, and icon colors.

    Steps to configure player theme:

    • Navigate to the ‘Player Generator

    • Select an existing player or create a new one

    • Click on Player Theme and configure the following options:

      • Color Theme: Choose between predefined dark or light themes to set the overall appearance.

Primary Color: Select the color for key elements such as the player button and progress bar.

Control Bar Background: Set the background gradient for the control bar.

Icon Colors: Define the color for the on-screen icons. Active icons will adopt the primary color.

  1. Player controls

Configure how viewers interact with the player by selecting the most appropriate user interface controls based on the screen size of the player.

    Steps to Configure Player Controls:

  • In the Player Generator section, click on Player Controls.

  • Select Controls based on player size:

  • For players wider than 360px, all control options are available.

  • For players narrower than 360px, select a maximum of four controls.

Additional settings

Further customise playback behaviour and viewer interaction with the following options

  • Autoplay video

Automatically starts video playback immediately after page load.

Please be aware that browsers handle video auto-play based on specific criteria. Initially, the player attempts to auto-play the video with sound. If the browser blocks this, the video will auto-play in a muted state. However, Chrome behaves differently as it may block auto-play entirely at the operating system level, meaning the video will not auto-play at all.

  • Show Download Menu

Enable viewers to download the video file in their preferred quality by displaying a download menu in the player. Note, the download menu will be shown in the player only if the played video has ‘Download release’ enabled in Security settings in VMPro.

  • Show consent Banner

Display a consent dialog on the share page to obtain user permission for full tracking. If disabled, only the number of plays will be tracked, ensuring compliance with GDPR regulations.

Note: For full analytics on shared page links, ensure that this option is enabled.

  • Show Subtitles by default

Enable subtitles by default in the player, ensuring that they are displayed automatically when available

    • When enabled, the player will automatically display subtitles in the browser's preferred language (if available).

    • Fallback Language: If subtitles in the browser's language are unavailable, the player will default to a selected fallback language. You can choose this language from a dropdown menu.

    • A message will appear under the toggle: "Subtitles will be shown in browser's language when available. If not, they will be shown in the fallback language you select."

    • If disabled, no subtitles will be shown by default. Viewers can still select subtitles manually from the language menu.
